JV Wolfpack Win 8th Straight in Rain

The JV Wolfpack beat Alta Loma 4-0 on two goals by Brennan Carter, a goal by Britton Smith, and own goal by the Braves. Carter scored 1st in the 8th minute of play. In the 12th minute, Carter scored again off a pass from Steven Frazer. Frazer made a nice pass to Britton Smith in the 54th minute, and Smith scored to put the Wolfpack up 3-1. In the 64th minute, a Brave defender scored an own goal while trying to clear the ball.  This mistake made the final score 4-0 Pack.

The JV Pack take their undefeated 8-0 league record to Los Osos on Monday and Etiwanda on Wednesday for the last two games of the season.

CHS Varsity Win on Senior Night

What could be more fitting then for the two CHS Varsity Captains to finish their last home match by scoring goals.
Riley Hernandez scores a goal in the 5th minute of the match on a fine pass from Guiseppi Escobar and in the second half Ryan Connor scores off a header  from a fine set pass by Esai Ramirez.

The game was played in light to heavy rain. I have to say it one more time, I just want to see a score against the defense that does not come off a judgment call by one of the referees. {Part of Video below) Sequence- wrong team awarded throw in. On ensuing throw in CHS is called for hand ball in goal. I have been taught that the ball can't cause a hand ball that a player must make a deliberate action at the ball. In this case the ball takes a weird spin off the turf and hits the players elbow. Wrong call. AL scores on PK tying game.

At half time the CHS soccer program recognized the 14 seniors on the team for their commitment to the soccer program by having them greet their parents for a photo and a flower presentation. It is amazing how fast four years can go by.

Other good news is that Claremont is back in the hunt for a playoff spot with their victory tonight and the combined loss of  Upland HS to RC 1-0. CHS takes a 1/2 game lead for the playoff birth.

Claremont JV teams wins 4-0 to remain undefeated in Baseline League play!

Game 8- Baseline League Analysis

Claremont vs Alta Loma  Senior night at Claremont high school. Half time will have presentations to all of the senior players on the Claremont squad. Hopefully this can ignite a fire under this team. A season of promise has had its ups and downs with the team in a down mode at the time. The boys need to just step on to the pitch and play soccer the way they know how and the way they are capable of doing.  GO HAVE SOME FUN. Prediction: Claremont 2-0. Actual CHS 2-1

Los Osos @ Etiwanda  No contest Prediction Los Osos 5-0 Actual LO 5-0

RC @ Upland A very big game in the baseline league for Claremont. RC has the speed and is living on the non offside calls for their goals. The last time these two team met it was a shoot out with RC winning 4-3. This game should prove to be the same type of game.Claremont is a 1/2 game behind Upland and 2 1/2 games behind RC for third place.  Prediction RC 4-2. Actual RC 1-0

Undefeated JV roll on to 7-0

The JV Wolfpack dominate Upland 4-1 on two goals by Russell Donaldson and a goal each from Brennan Carter and Troy Ford.  Carter scored in the 2nd minute of play off a nice pass from Henry Falotico.  In the 13th minute, Donaldson scored a PK after Upland committed a foul in the box.  Upland answered with a PK in the 15th minute.  Donaldson scored again with a header in the  59th minute off a head pass from Dylan Kegans. In the 68th minute, Ford scored the 4th goal of the game off a pass from Carter.

The JV Wolfpack advance to 7 wins and 0 losses in league play and hold a commanding lead in the Baseline League standings.

Not Tonight........Varsity Fall

Confusion, disorientation, pain, and a young team on the rise and Claremont falls 3-1. In the ninth minute of the match off a DFK from  a familiar spot on the field Upland chips a shot over the defense onto a Scotsman head for a goal.  Claremont came back in the 22nd minute on a throw in. The ball was kept in front of Uplands net where Scott Donaldson put it into the net. The score remained 1-1 until late in the second half when on another non called offside Upland scored. When CHS's captain asked the ref who was the person that held the Scotsman onside his reply was no one and get away from me, which is exactly why he should have made a call. The third goal was another judgment call when an UHS player kicked the ball from around the 40 yard line which goalie Connor Ritche caught the ball but his momentum was carrying him into the net, he tossed the ball out  which  it hit the cross bar and fell back into his hands, he was standing outside the net.  The ref called it a goal with heated argument coming from the CHS goalie and the defenders that were in the area. I just want to see a goal scored against the Wolfpack that does not carry any questionable judgment entering into it. Well I really don't but too many goals have been scored this season which had a referee's judgement involved. The boys need to reorganize and go out and have some fun on the pitch, just play.

CHS JV smoke Upland 4-1.

CHS FS win 2-1

Game 7- Baseline League Analysis

Game 7: All games Wedneday

Claremont @ Upland  This will be the two teams second meeting. At the last meeting CHS had one of its better outings winning 3-1. This meeting has the two teams fighting for their lives. The winner moves one step closer to a playoff spot while the loser chances grow slim. Pick Claremont 2-1 Actual Upland 3-1

Los Osos @ AL I just don't understand why AL is not scoring more goals. The last time these two teams met LO won the match 3-0. Pick LO 2-1 Actual LO 2-1

RC @ Etiwanda Rancho seems to have a very good offense. They yet have been held scoreless in the Baseline leauge. However Etiwanda will not be able to slow them down. Pick RC 4-0 Actual  RC 5-1

Varsity Players Attend Sonoma ID Camp

Three CHS Varsity players attend Sonoma State University I.D. camp over weekend. Ryan Connor, David Standerfer and Riley Hernandez all have aspirations of continuing soccer at the college level. All three took a step to see this dream full filled by attending the ID camp.  An ID camp is an invitation by the University to players that have expressed interest in the soccer program and in the University. It is considered an unofficial visit. In the case of these three young men all have applied to the University and may attend without soccer. The players received a tour of the campus and were able to meet with the coach and current players on the team. The ID camp is also a way for the boys to get a feel for the University and the soccer program. Another recruiting step is when a College or University expresses interest in a player,  they then may send a letter asking the recruit  to come to the University for an official visit. On an official visit  the recruit has an opportunity to practice with the team and meet the team and get a feel for the coach.

The recruiting process begins when your son decides or expresses an interest in playing soccer beyond high school. This is almost every players dream in about every sport. To get a feel for college level play or to see how many other young have the same dream first start by having your son attend a college summer camp.  This can and should begin as early as the freshman year.  Also your son should be playing at the highest club level as possible. Many colleges attend large club soccer tournament just for the fact that so there are many players that they can watch at one field.

Claremont JV Win Remain Unbeaten

The CHS JV team continued its dominance in the Baseline League with a 5-0 shutout victory over Rancho Cucamonga. Brennen Carter continued his scoring prowess with another hat trick and Dylan Kegans and Frankie Lozano added a goal each. Stephen Barba, Russell Donaldson, Steven Frazer, Henry Falotico, and Troy Ford provided one assist each to the Wolfpack attack. With this victory CHS improves to 6 wins and 0 losses in Baseline League play.

Claremont Varsity Falls.............

Claremont showed brillance and sloppiness in this match. Match begins Claremont steals ball puts together eight passes and scores in 45 seconds. 1-0 Claremont on an assist from Riley Hernandez to Tim Christenson. Then for the next 79 minutes CHS pretty much controls the ball but has momentary lapses. CHS is called for a foul in the penalty area in the 54 minute of the game for the fourth time this season. RC capitalizes and ties game 1-1. Then in the 66th minute on a play that should have been no big deal unless the whole team has a momentary lapse, RC takes a DFK from the 50 yard mark and a RC player makes a break to goal collects the ball beats a defender and scores. Claremont fought back over and over and in the 79th minute of play CHS gets its break when a driving Scott Donaldson is taken down in the RC penalty area. However on the insueing PK the RC goalie picks up on something that the CHS player is going to his right and begins to move to the right before the kick is made and by the time the ball reaches the goal line the RC had the area blocked and blocked the shot. Game set match. Then to top off the loss Upland upsets Los Osos 4-3, what could have been. Now CHS needs to stay focused, continue their fine play and set their site on making the playoffs.

Game 6 Analysis:

Claremont vs Rancho Cucamonga: This is the game of the week in the Baseline League. The winner of the match stays in the hunt for the Baseline League championship while the other falls out of contention.  What can one say about the first meeting but sloppy and CHS was robbed. RC scored its first goal in that match on a miscue between the CHS goalie and the defense. The second goal was off a roughness call against CHS in the penalty area giving RC a PK and the third goal came off a two ref crew non offside call where RC had three on none against CHS's goalie. All three circumstances will not happen again in the rematch. Game one jitters and miscues will be game six adrenaline and precision.   Claremont was also without it's leading scorer Tim Christenson. Prediction: CHS 2-0

LO vs Upland: In their first game LO handed Upland their worst lost of the season 6-1. This game should not be as large a defeat for Upland. Upland is a scrappy young team but is not up to Los Osos ability this year.  Prediction LO 3-0

AL vs Etiwand: AL in its first match won 3-1 which is pale in comparison to how the rest of the Baselin League has done against Etiwanda. AL has some very good forwards but just do not get the ball enough. They have the third best defense in the league.I was impressed with the AL forwards in the second half of the Claremont game but they are just not putting it together.  Prediction AL 2-1

Finals Week Practice Schedule

The practice schedule for the JV an Var practices will be modified during finals week as follows:
Monday and Tuesday there is no change to the starting times. W & Th.  training will begin at 1 PM. All four sessions will end 1/2 hour early.  FBO

The JV Wolfpack defeat Upland 4-1

The JV Wolfpack dominate Upland and win 4-1 on 2 goals by Henry Falotico and goals by Brennan Carter and Korbin Kimball.  Henry Falotico opened the scoring with a goal in the 3rd minute.  Upland answered in the 5th minute to tie the game at 1-1.  Falotico scored again in the 15th minute off a rebound from a free kick shot by Shane Hewitt.  Brennan Carter added a third goal in the 52nd minute.  In the 63rd minute, Korbin Kimball scored off a nice pass from Dakota Meador.  The JV Wolfpack finish the first half of Baseline League Season in 1st place with an undefeated 5-0 record.

Claremont Varsity beats Upland 3-1

Claremont Varsity playing in light rain finally get the monkey off their back and beats Upland at home 3-1.  Riley Hernandez gets his first goal of the year off a header assist from Ryan Connor. Unfortunately Upland, just before the half gets a goal of there own when goal when CHS  keeper Diego Ramirez bobbles a wet ball off a shot allowing an Upland player to score from close range. The half ended 1-1. The second half was mostly all Claremont. Time after time CHS got shots on goal but most were slightly off the mark. Claremont did score two goals in the second half one by Parker Langdon and a second by DK Daniel Kim assists by Ryan Connor and Scott Donaldson with possibly a double assist (reviewing tape). While up 2-1 Claremont nearly lost the lead on a shot by an Upland player that hit the cross bar came back on to the field where a second Upland player took a shot but a fine header out of goal by Ryan saved a score. It was nice to see solid play from the CHS team. In other Baseline league action Los Osos defeated Alta Loma 3-0. Etiwanda @ Rancho postponed till Wed.

Game 5 Analysis Baseline League

Upcoming Varsity Games

CHS vs Upland 5:30 PM
LO @ AL 3:15 PM
RC vs Etiwanda 3:15 PM

CHS vs Upland -  Many of the senior Claremont players really want to compete well against the Upland squad. Last year, for some, was the first year that they did not split the series matches with Upland and so would like to make up that difference this season by winning both matches, starting with this game.  The longer than usual span between matches this week is a plus for Claremont players allowing many to heal. This year the team has been plagued with injuries and a couple of red cards. CHS will be at closest to full strength as it has been all season.  Prediction CHS 3-1 Actual CHS 3-1

LO @ AL 3:15 PM  This is in my opinion CHS's best chance to get back into the Baseline league race. Los Osos is playing away at Alta Loma. Alta Loma has a grass field that will be very saturated from the current rains, slowing the field of play; which I believe will give them an advantage. Also AL has a height and weight advantage over LO players and the smaller dimension field at AL should also play be considered an advantage. I am predicting an upset. Alta Loma 2-1. Actual Los Osos 3-0

RC vs Etiwanda 3:15 PM Rancho Cucamonga should run wild in this game.  Rancho has a high octane offense and should continue its scoring against the porous Etiwanda defense. Prediction RC 4-2. Postponed till Wed. due to rain. Actual RC 4-1 game played on Wed 1/27

This week in Claremont Soccer

The boys have only one match this week. The matches will be on Friday against Upland High School. The matches should be  very competitive at all levels. TheJV will play at 3:15 with the Varsity game at 5:30 PM.The FS game will be played at 7:00 PM on the all weather field.

Varsity: Upland was the only team in the Baseline league last year that the varsity did not win a match against .The teams played each other twice. Both matches ended up 2-1 in favor of Upland. This year Upland has had trouble stopping the opponent from scoring, and having a little trouble scoring. However their game last Friday against Rancho was a barn burner with Upland coming up short 3-4. This is a must win match for CHS again. For any chance at winning league CHS cannot afford to tie or lose any match from here on out, which they are capable of.  Coach FBO and his staff are preparing the boys for the game.

End of the Year Banquet set for Feb 28th

Parents,

Not to move the season along any faster then it is going but the end of the year banquet is scheduled for Sunday February 28th at Taylor Hall at approx. 5 PM. More information on this as it becomes available. In preparation of the event you all should have received paperwork asking for the following. Baby pictures of your son that will be included in the video presentation at the event. If you could provide an infant photo and then a photo of your son around the age of eight to 12. These photos  will be used in the video to transition from the infant photo to the most recent photo that was  taken by Onsight Photo this past Monday.  If you are capable of scanning the images please email them to your team parent or email to Roger Connor. If you are submitting photos please put the name of your son on the back of each photo and place all photos in a zip lock baggy. This will help in getting the photos back to the correct family and help the producers of the video to identify each player. Our goal is to collect all of the photos by Jan 22nd.

A year book is also being created that will include statistics of the season, photos of each player, coaches comments and more. To fund this endeavor we ask that adds be taken out by families or by businesses. There are varying sizes of adds and each has a donation price associated with it. Please consider taking out an add to support the your son and the soccer program. We will be taking adds up to Feb. 23rd.

Also a donation is being collected for a coaches gift at each level. The level of contribution is different for each team due to the number of coaches helping out at the different levels.  Would like to have all funds collected by Jan 22nd.

JV Scores 5 Goals vs. Alta Loma and Remains Undef.

The JV Wolfpack beat Alta Loma 5-3 on a hat trick by Russell Donaldson and goals by Troy Ford and Steven Frazer. The Wolfpack drew first blood in the 13th minute on Russell Donaldson's header off a throw in by Shane Hewitt. Alta Loma answered back in the 23rd minute to even the score at 1-1. In the 29th minute, Russell Donaldson scored another header off a nice cross from Stephen Barba to establish a 2-1 lead for the Wolfpack at halftime. Troy Ford scored the third goal for the pack on a diving header off a direct free kick from Shane Hewitt in the 38th minute. Alta Loma scored a second goal off a strong outside shot in the 45 minute to draw the game closer at 3-2. In the 57th minute, Steven Frazer scored after Russell Donaldson redirected a direct free kick by Shane Hewitt to increase the pack lead to 4-2. Russell Donaldson scored the 5th goal on a PK, after Henry Falotico was taken down in the box in the 62nd minute. With time running out, Alta Loma scored off a PK to make the final score 5-3 Wolfpack. This exciting and hard fought victory, which resulted in three ejections (Troy Ford and 2 Alta Loma players), keeps the JV Wolfpack undefeated in Baseline League play with a 4-0 record.

The JV Wolfpack play their next game at home at 3:15pm against Upland on Friday, Jan 22nd.

Varsity Wins vs Alta Loma 2-1

On this day the  Claremont Varsity team comes out strong and scores two first half goals and then holds on for a 2-1 victory over Alta Loma at Alta Loma revenging a last season loss on this field. Tim Christenson scored his fourth goal of the season in the fifth minute of play off a pass from Guiseppi Escobar  for an early Claremont lead. Later in the first half Daniel Kim scored on a corner kick from Scott Donaldson for a 2-0 Claremont half time lead.  Alta Loma came out in the second determine to get back into the match and in the 60th minute of the match scored a goal again on an apparent offside call. The sideline ref had raised his flag and then as the ball was kicked out lowered it but the ball came right back into action to the player who was originally in the offside position. This time the goal did not cost CHS the game.  Alta Loma kept the pressure on and FBO kept the substitutions rolling. The team showed signs of dominance against Alta Loma as they did against Los Osos but yet have put it together for  a full game. This was a good win for CHS.

Upland HS played Servite and lost 4-1 and Harvard West Lake and lost 0-3 and Los Osos and lost 5-1.

Game 4- Baseline Analysis

Claremont @ Alta Loma 3:15 PM
Last year  teams played each other three time with Claremont winning two of the three. Claremont won at home and on a neutral field and lost at Alta Loma. Alta Loma beat Etiwanda 4-1 and tied Rancho on Wednesday. Another common opponent is Chino where AL lost 6-1 and CHS won 2-1.On the year AL is 2-6-4 overall and 1-0-2 in league.  Claremont played so well on Wednesday in a 0-1 loss against 11-1-4 Los Osos but yet sits number five in the Baseline League. This will change. Watching practice tonight and seeing how crisp their passing is becoming and how much coach FBO is on them I  am going to give my prediction early. Claremont 2-0 Actual  Claremont 2-1.  Clraremont led 2-0 until the 60th  minute of the match.

Etiwanda @ Los Osos 5:30 PM.

This game should and will be a blow out. Etiwanda is lacking a true forward to compete against the strong defensive players in the Baseline League. It appear that they have a young defensive line that is learning the 4-4-2 style of play and have yet to perfect it. Los Osos should be hungry after being held to just two shots on goal against Claremont on Wednesday. Prediction Los Osos 6-0 Actual LO 4-1.

Rancho Cucamonga vs Upland:

This could be an upset in the making. Alta Loma and Rancho tied their match on Wednesday and Alta Loma tied Upland earlier in the week as well.  Upland has brought up some Freshman players  to the varsity team this week to fill some needs. Coach Condito is a very competitive person and will do what it takes to make his team more competitive,  which it has not been in the early going. Coach Condito is a very good tactical coach and has a system but has been unable to get his kids to perform, this year, in the system, but it  appears that they are coming around.  Prediction:  1-1 Match Actual: Rancho 4-3
Reports from the game by Upland insiders are saying the same as Claremont that goals were scored from the offside position. Rancho is effective beating the offside trap. They have the speed and have at least two victories with offside calls that went in their favor. Not a successful formula for playoff action.

Baseline League After Game 3

Los Osos vs Claremont. Well Los Osos seems to be the team of destiny in the Baseline League. Being outshot 14-2 it only took their second shot on goal in the game for the win. In the 51st minute of the match a shot by a Los Osos player hit the cross bar and came back on to the field of play where the second shot was tipped by Claremonts goal keeper Diego Ramirez but made it into the net. Claremont did everything in this match to have earned a victory except score. This was a heartbreak loss. A win would have put CHS in a tie for first, now the Wolfpack will need the remaining seven games to make up two games for a tie in the Baseline league championship,. Which tthe team is capable of doing. Coach FBO certainly had the boys ready to play for this match. Claremont had the ball on its half of the field for the first 27 minutes of the match and had many opportunities to score. In the last minute of the game on a crossing pass by Martin McCormack was headed just past the post for CHS's final shot of the match. A win would have put CHS in a tie for first but the loss puts them in 4th place pending the reported outcome of the AL vs RC game played Wed. Next up for Claremont is Alta Loma who is 1-0-1. Claremont Var and JV will be traveling to Alta Loma on Friday with the game starting at 3:15 PM for both teams.

JV wins 1-0 on a goal by Shane Hewitt off a flick assist by Henry Falotico and another shutout by the Wolfpack defense and goalkeeper Sam Newton. The JV Wolfpack remain on top of the Baseline League with a 3-0 league record.

Now That is What I'm Talking About.......

Var 5-0, JV 2-0  and FS 4-0 (vs. Bonita HS) WIN!

The Varsity put together a very solid match against Etiwanda HS winning 5-0. Senior forward Tim Christenson getting his first start at forward  had a fine match scoring 3 goals. I heard the term "hat trick", "turkey" "tres goals get you dinner" being used for the feat  but am unsure as to the correct term for when a player scores three goals in a match. It has not been a common occurrence for CHS players to score three in a match.

Claremont scored the first goal of the match in the second minute on a goal kick the ball was not cleared well and a defense man misplayed the ball  Tim Christenson was able to toe flick the ball away and out run the defense to the ball then in stide strike the ball past a charging keeper.

In the 10th minute on a free kick from Claremont's own 16 yard line Ryan Connor's 60 yard strike traveled between the Etiwanda defense where Tim Christenson picked the ball up in full stride for his second goal of the match.

The third goal came in the 17th minute when Tim Christenson, who was in great position for another score after receiving a fine pass from Daniel Kim, was tackled in the box. The team selected  defense man Andrew Martinez to take the PK.   Anderw Martinez went on to convert his second PK goal in as many games. Andrew's team mates have a lot of confidence in Andrew ability to make that shot. Andrew now has a streak of four consecutive PK's when taking into account two preseason games that required PK's to settle the outcome of the match. His team members like watching Andrew turn his back to the keeper right before the whistle and then turning back and forcing the ball into the net past the keeper.

The second half began like the first half with good Claremont ball control and CHS  went on to add two more scores in the match. The first goal came on a throw-in by Andrew Martinez. The throw in was flicked into goal off of David Standerfer's head.  I sure hope this is contagious. Then Tim Christenson scored his third goal of the match off an unselfish pass from Griffin Easter to end the scoring for the Wolfpack and a 5-0 victory. In the match Claremont out shot Etiwanda 25 to four.

After the match assistant coach Jamie Oberbeck indicated that the boys executed to the tee what they had been going over in practices the past week. It appears that the coaches are finding the right combination of players that can execute what coach FBO wants from the team. CHS should get Riley Hernandez back (ankle) this week as well Scott Donaldson will be back on the pitch after serving a one game suspension for a red card he received in last Wed. match against RC.

After the match the team was seen heading to the gym to support the CHS boys basketball team, to cheer them on to victory!

Next Varsity Match: vs Los Osos (10-1-4) Wednesday January 13th 5:30 PM @ CHS

The JV Wolfpack also dominated play against the Eagles and ended the game with a 2-0 victory.
Brennan Carter scored the first goal and assisted the second goal, which was scored by
Paul Cho.  Goalkeeper Sam Newton recorded his second "clean sheet" in a row since his
return after a preseason injury.
